I recently looked up this question myself as I am soon trading up to the new Cricut Imagine. Unfortunately, the Cricut Imagine cartridges are a different shape and are not able to work on the other Cricut machines; either the Personal Cutter or the Expression. However the good news is that you can use the earlier cartridges on the newer Imagine, there is a seperate slot for them to go into, so all your old cartridges will still be useful. One other thing to remember is that there are new mats for the Imagine as well so your old ones won't work. There are special markings on them that the digital scanner uses as reference points. There have been some complaints about the stickiness of the new mats but Cricut has said they are fixing the problem and it should be resolved soon. The only thing I haven't been able to find out is if there is going to be a new attachment cord to connect the Imagine cartridges to the Gypsy, hopefully there will be.

Personally I think both machines are GREAT and I can't wait to get the new Imagine myself as I have always been very pleased with Cricut's entire line of products.
