NO it can not. You must buy cartridges to put in it.
The Silhouette can though, check out site below.
My sister in law has a Silhouette and loves it. But it does take some practice.

I have downloaded fonts to my desktop to use for scrapbooking and have no idea what to do to use them.

It depends on what operating system you have as to where to put them I think. If your OS is newer (I use XP) then you can UNzip them, with WinZip, making sure you know where they were extracted. (I usually extract on my desktop) Then, you highlight the font itself (sometimes they come with read me files) After they are highlighted, drag them to your FONTS folder.
